Hayley Crittenden, Soprano

Originally from Vancouver, Hayley is a graduate of the University of Victoria’s Bachelor of Music Program: Vocal Performance, under the mentorship of esteemed Voice teacher Alexandra Browning-Moore. She has studied voice and piano since the age of 5, completing RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music), Grade 10 level in both disciplines. In April 2006, she placed first in the Kiwanis Lieder class, and went on to sing in the National Voice Class in Prince George. While studying at the University of Victoria, she sang and toured with the Juno-Award winning UVic Chamber Singers, with acclaimed Choral Director, Bruce More. In 2008 she graduated from the post-graduate Artist Diploma Program in Opera Performance at the Vancouver Academy of Music, studying with renowned voice teacher David Meek.  In May of 2007 she was the recipient of the Kay Meek Voice Scholarship, and as a recipient, performed a Lieder/Aria Concert at the Orpheum Theatre in April 2008. In 2008 she was also awarded with the Judith Forst Scholarship for Vocal Excellence, and the Vancouver Opera Guild’s Opera Scholarship. In June of 2007 she performed the role of Donna Elvira in the Academy’s Summer Opera production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In 2008 she sang the role of Fiordiligi from Così fan Tutte with Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, Germany. In 2008 she was a member of Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artist Studio, where she performed the roles of La Princesse from Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilegès, and Rosie in the Touring Production of Barber of Seville by Hodges/Rossini. In 2008 she was also fortunate to participate in the first two workshops of The Inventor by Bramwell Tovey/John Murell, singing the role of Cécile. Later in December 2010 she was fortunate to collaborate again with Maestro Tovey, and perform two of Cécile’s Arias in Vancouver, in a CBC live broadcast with host, Bill Richardson. In March 2009 she performed the role of Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro with Vancouver Summer Opera Workshops, and in July 2011, performed Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with the same company. Also in July 2011 she performed/workshopped scenes from Idomoneo as Ilia, with esteemed directors and coaches: Wendy Nielsen, Tom Diamond, Elizabeth Upchurch and Anne Larlee, as part of the St. Andrew’s by the Sea Opera Workshop. In April of 2012 she participated in a nation-wide Quebec competition: Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques (Young Lyrical Ambassadors) and was named one of the twenty finalists and received an award in Montreal in November, 2012. Also that year, she performed the role of Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte in concert with Capital City Opera, in Ottawa, Ontario. In 2013 she studied in Marseille, France, with CNIPAL under the tutelage of Ivan Domsalski, learning the roles of Faust's Juliette, Carmen's Micaela, as well as Idomeneo's Ilia and La Boheme's Musetta.
